You can put together a Tokyo itinerary in an evening, and find a suitable flight from Rome or Milan even faster. Unfortunately, visa requirements are less clear. Entry requirements depend on citizenship, purpose, and duration of trip. Italians can visit Japan for short periods without a visa, while foreigners with an Italian residence permit may require a full application.
Therefore, it's best to start preparing before purchasing tickets and accommodation. When a visa to Japan from Italy is required, you need to check the appropriate category, application location, and document requirements. Visa Agency analyzes these issues based on the client's situation and develops a plan to ensure your planned trip doesn't get bogged down by visa formalities.
The Japanese consulate doesn't expect a detailed archive of your life. The package should briefly and clearly answer three questions:
For a tourist visa, the following is usually prepared:
It is mandatory to book roundtrip air tickets before submitting your application. If you are visiting relatives or friends, an invitation and confirmation of your relationship with the host will be added to the basic package. If your residence permit is about to expire, proof of a submitted extension will also be required.
The Japanese consulate requires a minimum of 5 business days to review the complete application package, with the countdown starting the day after receiving the application. It is not possible to collect your passport earlier at the applicant's request: Japanese consulates in Italy do not offer rush processing.
Five days is only sufficient in an ideal scenario. Additional verification or document requests will prolong the wait, so allow some time between submission and departure. This is especially true if the trip is tied to a vacation, business meeting, or family event that cannot be rescheduled.
The cost depends on the type of visa you are applying for. For applications accepted from July 1, 2026, a single-entry visa costs €90, while a multiple-entry visa costs €181. However, certain nationalities and travel purposes may qualify for different rates or fee waivers. If the consulate refuses your visa, you will not have to pay for it.
However, the consular fee is not always equal to the entire visa application cost. Travel to the consulate, photography, translations, and agency assistance are all charged separately. Therefore, it's better to budget for a specific situation rather than setting aside exactly 90 euros for a visa and hoping no other expenses arise.
Applying independently is entirely possible if you have the time to understand the rules and calmly correct any deficiencies. When a vacation has already been booked and the travel dates cannot be changed, such savings can prove too costly. Visa Agency takes care of the part of the work that most often wastes days (and sometimes weeks)
The client only needs to submit the initial data on time and complete any actions that require personal involvement. The consulate still makes the decision, but the application is sent there after a professional review, not in the hope that nothing important has been missed.
