RESULTS WE ARE PROUD OF

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE APPLYING

01

Can I apply through Italy?

Yes, if the applicant is legally present in Italy and can explain their connection to Italy. For US visas, a truthful travel purpose and interview readiness are critical.
02

Which documents matter most?

The key documents are DS-160, passport, appointment confirmation, financial evidence and materials proving why you will return after the trip.
03

Is personal attendance required?

Yes, most US visa applicants attend a personal interview and provide biometrics at the consular section.
04

How long does the process take?

Timing depends on available interview dates. We prepare the file in advance so the case is ready once a slot appears.
05

What should I do after a refusal?

We review the refusal reason under 214(b) or another section, strengthen weak points and recommend reapplying only when the case is stronger.

An Italian residence permit does not make travel to the US visa-free. Italian citizens are included in the Visa Waiver Program and, if they meet its conditions, can visit the country for up to 90 days with an ESTA. For a foreigner living in Italy on another passport, the rules will depend on their citizenship and the purpose of their visit.

For a resident with a Ukrainian or other passport, a US visa through Italy may be a logical option: current regulations allow applying for a nonimmigrant visa in the country of their legal residence.

However, a residence permit only determines the application location. Further considerations include the DS-160, the financial component of the application, the purpose of the visit, and interview preparation. Visa Agency reviews these details in advance and tailors the application process to the individual applicant.

What documents are needed to obtain a US visa from Italy?

There is no ""universal folder of twenty documents"" for US applications. The consul must see not only the application form, but also a clear connection between the declared trip and the person's life in Italy. Therefore, both mandatory documents and confirmation of specific circumstances are included in the case:

  • Passport;
  • DS-160 confirmation page;
  • Visa fee payment confirmation (if required);
  • Photograph (if uploading to DS-160 failed);
  • Italian residence permit or other document proving legal residence;
  • Documents on work, study, or self-employment;
  • Bank statements and proof of source of income;
  • Itinerary information and intended stay in the United States;
  • Copies of host documents (if traveling to visit relatives);
  • Sponsor documents (if someone else is paying for the trip);
  • Documents About family (if relevant to the case).

An invitation from a relative or friend to the US for B1/B2 visas is not a required document and does not in itself improve the chances of obtaining a visa. The consul is more concerned with the purpose of the trip, the applicant's financial situation, and circumstances confirming their intention to return to the US after their visit.

US Visa Processing Time via Italy

It is not possible to specify the waiting time in weeks in advance. The interview queue changes throughout the year, and new dates appear as the schedule is updated. Therefore, after paying the fee and scheduling an appointment, it is advisable to periodically check for available slots in the official system: sometimes, an interview can be rescheduled to an earlier date.

The interview itself does not always conclude the process. If the consul requires additional documents or an administrative review, the waiting time will be extended, and such a review and the subsequent passport return are not included in the standard waiting time. Therefore, it's best to begin processing well in advance of your intended trip.

Visa Cost in Italy

For a tourist or business B1/B2 visa, the basic consular fee is $185. This fee is paid for the application review, so if the application is refused, the money is not refunded. A separate application form and fee are required for each person, including children (if they require a visa).

However, $185 does not always cover all the processing costs. After approval, citizens of some countries may be charged an additional visa issuance fee, which is determined by the applicant's citizenship.

Photographs, document translations, and support services may also be included in the overall cost. Therefore, it's best to calculate the cost of applying from Italy based on your specific case, rather than just the consular fee.

Why Apply Through a Visa Agency

The US visa application process begins well before the interview. By the time you meet with the consul, the application form has already been submitted, and the applicant's basic history has been recorded in the DS-160. To increase your chances of success, Visa Agency first analyzes your case and then prepares it for submission:

  1. Review the client's situation;
  2. Complete and verify the DS-160;
  3. Create a package of documents based on citizenship and status in Italy;
  4. Check financial confirmations and source of funds;
  5. Help schedule an interview, selecting a date and city for submission;
  6. Discuss with the client any questions the consul may have;
  7. Provide additional documents if any difficulties arise.

The goal of such preparation is not to create a ""perfect story,"" but to ensure that the application form, documents, and interview responses are consistent. Considering that the visa issuance decision rests with the consular officer, Visa Agency strives to do everything possible to prepare the applicant as best as possible. See for yourself: submit a request and receive a free consultation on your case!
